The Art of Tea Pots: A Two-Part Series
Wheel-Thrown Tea Pot Series: Wednesday, March 5 & 12 (6-9 p.m.)
Worskshop Description
Join us for a special two-part TEA POT series! This series is ideal for students that can confidently center and throw at least 4 pounds. Part 1: Shaping the Teapot Components (Wednesday March 5) In the first part of this series, we focus on throwing the pieces that will come together to form a teapot. We explore the selection of clay, the techniques for centering and shaping on the wheel, and the methods for creating the various components such as the body, spout, and lid. Part 2: Assembly and Decoration (Wednesday March 12) The second part of the series delves into the assembly and decoration of the teapot. We cover the techniques for attaching the thrown pieces, ensuring a seamless and functional design. Additionally, we explore various methods for decorating the teapot, from hand-painting to intricate carvings, allowing you to add your personal touch and creativity to the final product. Glazing Options Students have several options for glazing their teapots. They can choose to come back and glaze their own pieces during open studio hours for an additional fee. Alternatively, they can use underglaze during the class session, or a studio technician can glaze and finish the teapots for them. Led by Janna Oliver
